In this unit Artist Solve Problems we had to over come problems or struggles that other famous artist have been encountered with. During class when we were watching the TED Talk videos many artist have faced a problem or a limitation with their art work. Many of the artist have that we've watched have created a new type of art work with their limitations. Like for example Jackson Pollock a famous artist who would splatter different colored paint on a large canvas. He broke the rules of the art world and created something abstract to the point where your eyes couldn't focus on one spot of the painting. At the beginning of this unit we had to construct a sculpture made of cardboard boxes, newspaper, and tape that had a requirement of a height of 18 inches and could support a a lot of weight. We didn't have enough cardboard boxes so my group and I had to go dumpster diving to get some (it was pretty thrilling).
Now for our last project for this unit we had a giant group so we broke up into smaller groups and worked on a series ( 2 paintings per group ). Our limitation was painting without touching the canvas. We splattered paint on the canvases and even got a water gun and sprayed paint on the canvases our goal was to go above and beyond to make this abstract. My favorite painting is the one one the lower left hand corner. It's my favorite because we combined so many colors to make it look beautiful, but also to make the mountains we had to combined all the primary colors to make a dark brown color. And the sunset we had to splatter yellow, pink, and orange to make it perfect.
